Attila Dargay: Mattie the Goose-boy (Lúdas Matyi, 1976) 110 Years of Hungarian Animation

How can you tell a story to children that is full of historical references and where a young boy beats up an old man three times over? Attila Dargay asked himself this very question. His response would become one of the most popular Hungarian animation films of all time.  more

Current events

The conflict between Mattie the Goose-boy and Döbrögi encompasses the eternal antagonism between rich and poor. Yet even more prominent is the contrast between the child, who lives in harmony with nature and animals, and the overbearing lord who destroys the environment for his own amusement. Their duels were immortalised by the work of Attila Dargay and Marcell Jankovics.

In Hungarian, without subtitles

The discussions before and after the screening will be conducted in Hungarian.

Host: Janka Barkóczi

Presented by: Müpa Budapest
