We first held this highlights concert in 2023 and are now presenting it for the third time, in order to welcome not only fans, but also those who are just getting to know the magic of Wagner’s passionate style.

Although Wagner's mature masterpiece, which he wrote after Tristan but before completing the Ring, is officially a comic opera and doesn't stint on entertainment, it is nevertheless much more complex, dealing with youth and old age, love and friendship, art and craft, as well as innovation and conservativism.

The life of the title character of Wagner’s early opera Tannhäuser, based on the hero of medieval legend, is a struggle between sensuality and asceticism.

Franco Zeffirelli’s staging of La Bohème has been a New York favourite since 1981, and this enchantingly lyrical, vibrantly youthful and extremely touching production is now making its fourth appearance on the programme of the MET’s global broadcasts.

Born in Vilnius and with Armenian roots, the soprano Asmik Grigorian is one of the biggest favourites – and no longer an outside favourite – on today’s international opera scene.

Without ever knowing, the heroine of this Vincenzo Bellini opera performs death-defying feats at dizzying heights, while the singer tasked with portraying her is only too aware that hers is one of the bel canto repertoire’s most beautiful and risky roles.
